Alumnae Awards

Honoring Our Alumnae

At each Reunion, we honor two alumnae with these awards:

Distinguished Alumnae Achievement Award

The Distinguished Alumnae Achievement Award is granted to a Nightingale-Bamford School alumna who has built upon her Nightingale education and achieved significant accomplishments in her professional life, or for distinguished human service to her community, state, or nation.

2024 Award Winner: Anne Moses '84
With more than 25 years of experience in social justice and political organizations across the non-profit, political, and academic sectors with a focus on women and girls, Anne founded IGNITE in 2010. IGNITE is a nationally recognized 501c3 that is building a movement of women who are ready and eager to become the next generation of political leaders, and has grown rapidly to become the largest and most diverse young women’s political leadership program in the country. Anne's previous senior leadership positions as Chief Operating Officer for Emerge America and Majority Council Director for EMILY’s List informed her passion and expertise in the arena of gender parity in political leadership. Throughout her career, and now after stepping down from IGNITE, Anne works as a consultant in the non-profit and philanthropic arenas. She has served as Principal Investigator on federal, state, and local evaluations regarding the impact of welfare and health care reform on low-income individuals and communities. Anne and her work have been featured on a wide variety of news outlets, as well as numerous international and domestic articles on women and leadership. She also inspired Nightingale Upper School students while speaking about gender equity at an assembly for Women's History Month in 2021. Anne holds a PhD from U.C. Berkeley, an MSW from New York University, and a B.A. from Middlebury College.

Distinguished Alumnae Service Award

The Distinguished Alumnae Service Award is granted to a Nightingale-Bamford School alumna who has demonstrated outstanding service and devotion to the school throughout her lifetime.

2024 Award Winner: Julie Sogg Seymour '74
Soon after graduating from Nightingale, Julie spent hours combing through the school's archives to create an alumnae directory. This work helped formalize the alumnae association, which connects alumnae to the school and one another following graduation. Julie served as President of the Alumnae Board from 1981-1983, and stayed on as a member until 1987. From 1984 through 1989, Julie served on the Board of Trustees and helped steer the school through its largest physical expansion to date—the full renovation of the Schoolhouse. Since then, Julie hosted several class Reunions, served as a Class Agent, attended alumnae events, and continued to connect her classmates. In her career, she served as Director of Parent Giving at Riverdale Country School and then Director of Development at the Rodeph Sholom School, thus deepening her relationship with the independent school community. Julie continues to champion Nightingale in many ways, including as a member of the FIDES society for loyally and consistently supporting the Nightingale Fund. Now retired, Julie recently visited Class XII students in their Financial Literacy course to share her experience and knowledge about philanthropy.
